Loudoun United Football Club announced Oliver Gage as the Director of Soccer in a press conference. Gage has had experiences with Houston Dynamo FC as the Head of Analysis and Technical Recruitment as well as a technical staff member with The University of Virginia, most recently Gage was Director of Football at SixFive Sports and previously he served as Director of Football for the CPL. “Olly’s appointment represents a significant step forward in our journey towards excellence both on and off the field” Greg Baroni, The CEO and Managing Partner of Attain Sports as well as controlling owner of Loudoun United FC said in a press release by the club.
Gage mentioned in the team press conference that he has been in place for a few weeks. “When I accepted this job we already had 18 to 19 players signed off this current squad” Gage said as he was not brought on during the start recruitment cycle “We are looking more at dropping in a couple additions here and there versus overhauling the current squad” as mentioned earlier because of the time Gage was brought on as Director of Soccer “We have to build a club underneath the surface, as much as what people see on the field is a product of recruitment, the reality is that what’s going to drive this club over the next six months to a year is the implementation of good process” Gage said when he was asked about building up the club in the next few months.
Loudoun United Head Coach, Ryan Martin, the clubs fifth year head coach said “I’m extremely happy he is here to come in and help and the fact that we share a very similar vision is even more important” when asked about working with Gage and working together and sharing ideas and visions “For me it has been a tremendous transition period for the club, myself and for Olly. I’m excited he’s here and for me this is a very important relationship in terms of how we build the club.”
Loudoun United is gearing up to start their season on the road on Saturday March 9th against San Antonio FC and their Home Opener is Saturday March 16th against North Carolina FC.
