WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University baseball recorded its 28th win of the season in dominant fashion, defeating Mary Washington 23-9 in seven innings.
The victory also marked a major milestone for longtime head coach Kevin Anderson, who earned his 700th career win at Shenandoah.
Anderson was hired in 2003 as the Hornets’ head baseball coach after previously serving as the head coach at James Madison University. During his time with the Dukes, he led the program to two Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament runner-up finishes and one regular-season championship over four seasons.
He spent five years at Warren County High School as a teacher and baseball coach. He also served as the school’s head football coach for his final three years there.
Now in his 23rd season at Shenandoah, Anderson has built one of the most successful programs in school history. During the Hornets’ time in the USA South Conference, he guided the team to a regular-season championship, three tournament runner-up finishes, two NCAA regional appearances and two College World Series berths.
Shenandoah transitioned to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) in 2013 and quickly found success. After finishing tied for second in its first season, the Hornets captured three consecutive regular-season titles from 2014 to 2016. In 2017, Shenandoah tied for first to earn a share of the conference championship.
Since joining the ODAC, Anderson has led the Hornets to four conference tournament championships, three runner-up finishes, six NCAA regional appearances and two super regional berths. He has also been named ODAC Coach of the Year four times.
Shenandoah currently holds a 28-4 overall record and an 11-4 mark in conference play. With seven games remaining in the regular season including five ODAC matchups, the Hornets are positioning themselves for another postseason run.
The ODAC Baseball Championship opening rounds are scheduled for May 1–3, with the championship series set for May 7–9.
